Top Vegetarian-Friendly NFL and MLB Stadiums as Selected by PETA
Last week PETA followed up their list of top NBA arenas for vegetarians with the release of the most vegetarian-friendly NFL and MLB stadiums in the country. The lists, which reward those facilities that provide the greatest diversity and quality of vegetarian options, prominently feature Green Sports Alliance members among the honorees. Two of the top five NFL stadiums (and all four honorable mentions) and five of the top ten MLB ballparks are Alliance members, including the number-one venues in both sports. In football, PETA rated Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field as the top place for vegetarians to attend an NFL game. Detroit’s Ford Field was also ranked among the top five stadiums, with Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium, San Francisco’s Candlestick Park, St. Louis’ Edward Jones Dome and MetLife Stadium, which houses the New York Giants and Jets and will play host to next year’s Super Bowl. For the second year in a row, another Philadelphia venue, Citizens Bank Park, topped the list for MLB ballparks. AT&T Park, home of the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants, placed fourth in the rankings. Other Alliance members in PETA’s top ten included Seattle’s Safeco Field, Boston’s Fenway Park and San Diego’s PETCO Park. Those attending the 2013 Green Sports Summit in New York will have the opportunity to sample the vegetarian options at another of the top ten MLB venues when they tour Citi Field, home of the Mets, on August 28. Attendees will also have a chance to discuss the topic of healthy food options at sports venues during the Eating Like the Athletes: Providing local, healthier food options at sports venues roundtable session.
