New York Yankees Announce Plan to Install LED Lighting at Yankee Stadium
The New York Yankees announced on June 30 that it will partner with GigaTera and PLANLED to retrofit Yankee Stadium with LED lighting prior to the beginning of the 2016 Major League Baseball season. The installation will position New York as the second MLB team to switch to LED lighting following the Seattle Mariners’ conversion at Safeco Field.The announcement continues an ongoing commitment to promoting sustainability by the Yankees. In addition to the planned switch to LED lighting, New York has also embraced renewable energy, composting, water conservation practices, and sustainable purchasing as part of its comprehensive attempt to reduce the environmental impact of hosting games. For its efforts, the Yankees organization was awarded the 2015 Environmental Leadership Award by the Green Sports Alliance.“We are always looking for better ways to conserve natural resources at Yankee Stadium and are thrilled to be able to partner with GigaTera and PLANLED to install state-of-the-art LED field lighting at our venue,” Doug Behar, Yankees Vice President of Stadium Operations, said at the time of the announcement. “These new lights will not only help us reduce our carbon footprint, but they will showcase all of the world-class events that take place at Yankee Stadium in the most pure and natural lighting that currently exists.”Read the full article here.
