Monica Rowand

Sustainability Coordinator, University of Louisiana at Lafayette

COO of Phase 3 Sports and Sustainability Coordinator at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Monica specializes in engagement for sustainable behavior change. In her first year with the Ragin’ Cajuns she implemented stadium-wide composting and other waste-reduction initiatives, putting Cajun Field on path to be the State of Louisiana’s first zero waste football stadium. She also worked with the City of Lafayette, the University, and Ragin’ Cajuns Athletics on a successful Trees for 3’s pilot program. Before returning to the swamp, Monica was part of CU Boulder’s award-winning sports sustainability team – Ralphie’s Green Stampede – where she focused on fan engagement campaigns made possible by corporate partnerships and designed to encourage behavior change in the university fan base. While with CU she led a team of industry leaders and the Green Sports Alliance in publishing the Fan Engagement for Sustainable Behavior Change Playbook; a guide outlining how to design, implement, manage, and measure marketing campaigns meant to influence fan behavior at home, work, and play. Committed to using sports’ platform to drive societal shifts to sustainability, she, along with partners Dave Newport and Kevin Dorsey, founded Phase 3 Sports, a sports sustainability marketing and consulting firm that helps sports properties design, grow, and monetize their sustainability assets while connecting corporate partners with values-aligned sports fans. Originally from the West, Monica has an MBA from University of Colorado’s Leeds School of Business and a BA in Geography/Environmental Studies from UCLA.
