NRG Stadium in Houston, home of the NFL’s Houston Texans, has announced a multifaceted plan to improve energy sustainability at the venue. The plan, created by stadium naming-rights sponsor NRG Energy, involves three key components:
- The installation of 700 solar panels in four NRG Haven Solar Canopies, providing 221 kW of energy generation for the stadium
- The addition of six electric-vehicle charging stations to the NRG eVgo charging lot
- Retrofitting the lighting system with 456 new high-efficiency LED field lights, which will make NRG Stadium the first professional football venue in the United States to use LED lighting on the field
NRG Energy and the Texans plan to complete the installation by the end of 2015.
