As customer expectation of the stadium experience evolves, designers have increasingly turned toward passive building strategies and the integration of energy- and water-saving measures that reduce the impact of hosting thousands of people on-site. Sustainable design also allows for teams and venues to engage with fans to promote sustainable habits outside the stadium. “New innovations in technology are leading the way for intelligent public assembly venues that will create unique, personalized and flexible spaces that compel individuals to gather together,” write report authors Richard Breslin and Gregory Sherlock of Populous. “Such venues will then continue to create settings that draw communities together, foster a culture and engross fans.”
