Philadelphia Eagles Become First Pro Sports Team to Achieve ISO 20121 Sustainability Certification
The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that the team has received the prestigious ISO 20121 Event Sustainability Management System certification, the first professional sports team to do so. ISO 20121 is an international standard designed to help organizations involved in the events and hospitality industries integrate sustainability into management practices and processes.
“While our concerted efforts to become a global leader in the sustainability field have led to many successes over the years, we continue to challenge ourselves to think bigger and more creatively,” said Christina Weiss Lurie, President Eagles Charitable Foundation, Eagles Social Responsibility. “Achieving ISO certification will help us take that next step to becoming a more environmentally responsible corporate citizen.”
The ISO 20121 Standard, first introduced at the 2012 London Olympic Games, provides a management blueprint to address the “triple bottom line” of sustainability – the economic, environmental and social impacts of events. The standard helps organizations operate in a way that is financially viable for the company, its customers and suppliers; minimize the use of resources and reduce waste; and consider the needs and expectations of those affected by the event or business. The key component of the standard is the development of a continuous improvement plan which is then implemented, analyzed and modified to achieve ever increasing standards of performance.
iCompli Sustainability, a division of BPA Worldwide, a non-profit international auditing organization headquartered in Shelton, Connecticut, performed the independent third-party certification of the Philadelphia Eagles compliance with the ISO 20121 standard.
