September 24 was World Rivers Day – a day set aside to celebrate the world’s waterways. In recognition of this special day, we wanted to share just how much our team appreciates the mighty Mississippi.
Each year, employees from the Minnesota Wild, Xcel Energy Center, Saint Paul RiverCentre, MHC Culinary Group, Levy Catering, Impark and Visit Saint Paul enroll in the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ Adopt-A-River program.
- On June 21 of this year, 66 employees (a record number for us!) came together to clean up a half-mile stretch of the Mississippi River banks in Lilydale, MN.
- Over 3,000 pounds of material was collected in just over two hours – double what we’ve collected in the previous three years all together.
- Since 2015, we’ve removed over 6,000 pounds of trash from the Mississippi River banks as part of our Adopt-a-River commitment.
- At the conclusion of the river cleanup, awards are distributed to staff members for the most unusual treasure found, best river clean up attire and most “die hard” volunteer.
